Note#1: These online databases are rich resources which include many items that cannot be found using popular search engines such as Google, Teoma, Yahoo, et al. We've added these databases to our collection for just that reason. Free access on all Library Media Center Internet terminals!
 
Note #2: If one is not in the CBHS Library Media Center (where access is quite straightforward on our Internet terminals) Students and faculty will usually need user names and passwords to access these databases. Please stop by the Library Media Center or call us for that information.
 
InfoTrac from the Gale Group
This database is essentially a collection of 20 databases in one. it contains full text resources for research in social sciences, natural sciences, language arts, health, history, economics, politics, government and more.

SIRS Researcher

Among the features of this database are the SIRS Researcher which currently features such topics as the Tsunami Disaster, Focus on Terrorism, Today's News, Maps of the World, World Almanac Excerpts, Spotlight on Academic Decathlon and Suggested Research Topics. This is a great resource for our CBHS academic community which adds depth to our on-site reference materials.

ProQuest Platinum

ProQuest is a state-of-the-art primary source research tool. This comprehensive database is already in many colleges and has over 2,200 magazines and newspapers (with over 300 professional journals) including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times. A reminder to the CBHS community; some of this material is on the open web, but requires paying fees to view or download articles and other materials. There are no fees involved if you use these CBHS Library Media Center resources!

Please drop by the Library Media Center for instructions for using this new (Spring 2007) database which is available 24/7/365 from school, from home or elsewhere.

Newsbank. News articles covering social, economic, environmental, government, sports, the arts, people, health and science issues and events. Sources: U.S. and international newspapers, wire services, broadcasts, magazines, and digests from science and health journal dating to 1986.

Magill on History.  ...produced by Salem Press, combines content from their critically acclaimed history reference sets in a fully integrated single database. This database is comprised of approximately 13,000 records, more than 2,500 historical images, charts, graphs and maps, and an index of more than 20,000 names. In addition, this database includes more than 5,000 biographical essays which examine the lives of more than 4,500 historical figures. The UN and PW are on the database handout in the Library Media Center.

Magill on Literature. Compiled by Salem Press, this database is the definitive, online source for editorially reviewed critical analyses. This database also includes brief plot summaries of the most studied works in the history of literature. MagillOnLiterature contains all of Masterplots and Masterplots II, Cyclopedia of World Authors, Cyclopedia of Literary Characters, Magill's Literary Annual, Magill's Guide to Science Fiction and Fantasy as well as World Philosophers and Their Works.
